KENYA – As reported by the Kerala News: "Former Kenyan cricket captain Maurice Odumbe Wednesday was formally charged with allegedly "receiving money, benefit or other reward" from a bookie, the game's world governing body said.

"Odumbe, 34, is scheduled to attend a full hearing in Nairobi commencing July 27, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

"The ICC, however, did not say for which games Odumbe was charged and whether the results of any match or matches were affected by this act.

"Presiding adjudicator Justice Ahmed Ebrahim of Zimbabwe took the decision to call Odumbe for a formal hearing in Nairobi Wednesday.

"…The charge brought against Odumbe is a breach of ICC's code of conduct for players and team officials.

"Under the code of conduct, players can face penalties ranging from a suspension for a minimum of two years to a life ban depending on the nature of the charge."
